Chaweng
Chaweng is Samui’s biggest and busiest beach town, sprung on one of the island’s finest beaches. Unlike Phuket’s Patong, or Pattaya’s central beach, Samui’s most developed beach is also one of its most beautiful.
Chaweng is a long, 4 km stretch of fine, white sand, lined by several rows of hotels, restaurants, bars and shops. It is doubtlessly the most important part of the island and it has been the main focal point of the island’s tourism industry for years. Majority of the island’s population lives here or around here; the entire length of the beach is well developed and has all the necessary amenities within reach.
Chaweng is Samui’s nightlife capital, with plenty of spots to choose from, ranging from beach bars to sophisticated cocktail places. Soi Green Mango and the area around it is the primary nightlife zone outside of the beach side, with plenty of western style bars and clubs - which get quite packed every night.
The same goes for shopping: Samui’s biggest mall - Central Festival Samui - is located here and attracts a respectable crowd of tourists and locals. Multitude of smaller shops and open-air arcades are spread over the entire area.
Chaweng is easily accessible for travelers: the northern end of the beach is less than a couple km from Samui Airport. Following the same direction you can reach Choeng Mon and Bang Rak areas in 5-10 minutes.
Immediately south to Chaweng is a smaller Chaweng Noi. It’s a smaller and a less busy beach compared to its bigger brother. Most of the new high-end real estate developments in the area is focused there.
Past Chaweng Noi lies Lamai - 2nd most visited beach on the island. In general Chaweng being a centerpiece of Samui, most of the island’s popular places are nearby.
