"The White Lotus" chooses Koh Samui: how HBO's iconic series opens new investment horizons
Koh Samui captured the global entertainment industry's attention in 2024 as the filming location for HBO's "The White Lotus" Season 3.
The series has become a television phenomenon, winning 10 Emmy Awards in 2022, 2 Golden Globes, and 5 Critics Choice Awards in 2023. Its success continued into 2024 with Jennifer Coolidge securing another Emmy for her leading role.
The location choice is strategic. Following the triumphant success of the first two seasons at Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea and Four Seasons San Domenico Palace in Taormina Sicily, producers sought a destination to captivate their sophisticated audience. Four Seasons Koh Samui, one of Thailand's most prestigious resorts, emerged as the perfect choice. Perched on a scenic hillside with a private beach and stunning ocean views, the resort perfectly embodies the series' luxurious atmosphere.
While filming also took place in Bangkok and Phuket, Koh Samui served as the primary location. The impressive 1.2 billion baht production budget reflects the project's scale.
The Samui Tourism Association forecasts at least 10% growth in hotel occupancy following the series' 2025 release. The island is preparing for increased tourism:
- Samui Airport will expand to 73 daily flights by year-end
- Infrastructure modernization underway
- New premium establishments opening
Koh Samui's selection for "The White Lotus" confirms its status as a world-class premium destination. This milestone will undoubtedly attract more attention to the region, opening a new chapter in luxury tourism and real estate development.
