Thailand, China to wave visa requirements
Jan. 2, 2024
China and Thailand have signed a bilateral agreement to exempt travelers from visa requirements. This is seen as a significant step forward that will help accelerate the post-pandemic recovery of Thailand's vital tourism sector.
Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin and Deputy Prime Minister Parnpree Bahiddha-Nukara announced this significant agreement during Mr. Parnpree's visit to China in December 2023.
The decision aligns with Thailand's strategic aim to improve its passport ranking and is expected to boost tourism and trade between the two countries. Currently ranked 64th in the Henley Passport Index with access to 80 destinations, Thailand anticipates positive outcomes from this visa-waiver initiative with China.
