Mai Khao

With a length of nearly ten kilometers, Mai Khao is the longest beach on Phuket. It’s located in the northmost part of Phuket, and is a home to Phuket International Airport (HKT) and Sirinat National Park.

Phuket has historically developed from it’s central part, which means that despite it’s prodigious size Mai Khao is one of the less visited Phuket’s beaches - compared to Patong, Bang Tao or Kamala. But recently it’s been changing with opening of upscale hotels (Marriott Mai Khao, Melia Mai Khao, Avani, Anantara Vacation Club and Anantara Villas, JW Marriott Phuket Resort & Spa etc.) and luxury residences (including upcoming Radisson Phuket Mai Khao Beach). It is also a location for an upcoming 141 rai, 4 billion THB international medical hub planned by Thai government.

As it stand, Mai Khao today is a good place for a quiet location on a picturesque natural beach away from the crowds, with a bit of plane watching. In the northern part of the beach, next to JW Marriott is Turtle Village Shops & Cuisine complex - an idyllic 2-storey open-air mall with a big plaza; popular place to catch a sunset. Families with children will enjoy a day trip to Splash Jungle Water Park. For a bit of unspoiled nature you can visit Sirinat National Park, which sits between Mai Khao and Nai Yang areas. From there, within a short drive there is a world-class Blue Canyon Country Club golf course.

Due to growing number of arrivals to Phuket International Airport, the government has announced the construction of a new airport in Phang Nga province next to Sarasin bridge connecting Phuket to the mainland. While the new Phang Nga - Andaman International Airport will be servicing the entire island (as well as up-and-coming Phang Nga beaches), Mai Khao as the closest major beach on Phuket is poised to benefit the most from the new passenger routes.
